磯辺篤彦 九州大学応用力学研究所教授、博士（理学）。専門は海洋物理学。海洋プラスチック研究の第一人者として環境省の研究プロジェクトや、国際協力機構と科学技術振興機構の研究プロジェクトでリーダーを務める。国内では環境省・海岸漂着物対策専門家会議の座長、国外では国際科学会議・海洋科学委員会・海洋プラスチックごみ作業部会や、国連環境計画・科学諮問委員会の委員。環境大臣賞環境保全功労者表彰（2018年）、内閣総理大臣賞海洋立国推進功労者表彰（2019年）、文部科学大臣表彰科学技術賞（2020年）を受賞。近著に「海洋プラスチック問題の真実 ―マイクロプラスチックの実態と未来予測」(化学同人/DOJIN選書)

He is now working as the principal investigator of multiple marine plastic research projects sponsored by the Japanese government. He was awarded the Environment Minister’s prize in 2018, the Prime Minister’s prize in 2019, and the Prize for Science and Technology from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2020, for his marine plastic pollution research.
